I first learned about Yubuchobap during my study abroad era in Korea. My homestay sister bought a pack of the tofu skin wrappers from the Korean supermarket and taught me how to make them! We prepared the rice and stuffed it inside the tofu skin wrapper. Topped it with whatever we liked.
Fast forward, on a recent trip to Seoul, Korea, my husband was browsing around Hongdae to find cool spots to eat at and I am so glad he knows me super well, because he found one of the best Yubuchobap places ever! It was in a popular alley street in Hongdae and the variety they had on the menu was immaculate and creative. Beef tartare, salmon sashimi, and so much more topped on these tofu skin wrapped rice pockets...?? haha
By the way, you may have heard of these by their Japanese name called Inarizushi.
Today, let me introduce to you a brand new spot that just opened in Orange County with a grand opening promotion! I haven't tried it yet, but I hope to soon! I'm glad there is another spot I can get this in California! YAS!!
The place is called Yubuya and it is located in Costa Mesa! The head chef there has over two decades of expertise in the sushi industry so I expect great things from the food here!
According to their menu online, I see menu offerings such as
- spicy tuna
- salmon
- yellowtail
- eel
- scallop
- ikura (salmon smelt egg)
- snow crab
- soy marinated shrimp
