"LETS PRETEND TO BE TOURISTS AND TAKE TOURISTY PHOTOS" - I SAID SUGGESTED TO KEV...

ALWAYS REASSURING TO KNOW THE RESTAURANTS I GO TO HAVE AN "A" GRADE FOR FOOD INSPECTION
Last Saturday, I was really debating on whether or not I should have gone to the last day of the KTOWN x OC BLOCK PARTY at the Angels Stadium. I was basically 80% going to go until my friend Nancy informed me that when she got there, there is a $10 parking fee. $10 y'all ... that aain't cheap at all. Immediately after hearing that information from her, I made up my mind not to go to the KTOWN NIGHT MARKET because come on...why would I wanna pay $10 in addition to the entrance fee of $3 just to also pay more money to eat food.
Instead, I made a better decision.
Spontaneously, after deciding not to go to Ktown Night Market anymore, I called up Kev and suggested to go on an L.A adventure! WOO! Our first stop was an Asian/Mexican fusion restaurant that I've been basically dying to try: THE BUN SHOP.
DON'T YOU JUST LOVE SOME SOFT BUNS FILLED WITH DELICIOUS MEAT? I SURE DO!
The Bun Shop basically takes the Chinese Restaurant version of the "peking duck in steamed buns" favorite to a whole notha level y'all! They don't have duck here on their menu but they DO have your typical taco favorites cradled in a SOFT AND FLUFFY STEAMED BUN. MMmmmMMMmm!
I always loved eating steamed buns as a kid, especially whenever my parents would take me to go to a Chinese Restaurant or when they just simply buy it from a Vietnamese/Chinese bakery. My mom even used to make the most delicious steamed buns ever from scratch (I wish she still did)! But at The Bun Shop I can enjoy the result of Mexican + Chinese food intertwining to create a "taco" with a steamed bun shell.
So enough about my personal thoughts and stories! Here's what Kev and I shared:
- BEEFY:
- This is Kev's favorite!
- The meat is soft here and more thickly served. What I mean is, it's in chunks or at least that's what my mouth felt!
- The huge tempura fried onion is a perfect addition as well!
- KATSU:
- Very crunchy and delicious
- SPICY PORK:
- This is my favorite! It's also Kev's #2 fave
- It's actually a bit spicy so be careful!
- The meat is soft and just the way I like it
- SHOP FRIES:
- Looooove the garlic! It's not too strong enough that it would give you bad breath
- I love that they paired it with Rosemary. It tastes very herbal-ly
- MACARONI SALAD (as the side):
- Kev: This is quite bland like something I could just get at a store.
- I also agreed. It's just your typical very standard macaroni salad. Nothing special really.
- OVERALL:
- The bun itself is amaaaaaaaaazing. It's super soft!! I love soft buns ^___^
- The tacos are decent sized. Probably the same typical size you would get at a Taqueria (but of course with buns instead of the tortilla.)
I would definitely come back! The place is very clean and the workers are nice. The concept of the food is very unique and delicious!
