THE GLORIOUS 24oz PEANUT B ACAI BOWL!
THE FRUIT ARE BEAUTIFULLY LAID OUT LIKE AN ARTWORK!
CUTE CUTE DECOR. TOO BAD THERE WAS NO OTHER WRITING SO IT KIND OF LOOKS PLAIN...
THE RAW AGAVE AND HONEY IS SELF SERVE. PUT ON AS MUCH AS YOU'D LIKE! I THINK KEV AND I PUT TOO MUCH... BECAUSE OUR ACAI BOWL ENDED UP BEING TOO SWEET
THEY HAVE OUTDOOR SEATING WHERE YOU CAN RELAX AND TAKE TIME TO SMELL THE FLOWERS
DON'T YOU JUST LOVE THE SCENERY AT OC MIX MART ?!
CACTI PLANTS!
BANANAS FOR BANANAS!
THEY RAN OUT OF GOJI BERRIES SO INSTEAD THEY REPLACED IT WITH CACAO NIBS. NOT GONNA COMPLAIN ABOUT THAT THOUGH! MMM CHOCOLATE....
ACCORDING TO THE WORKERS, PITAYA IS JUST ANOTHER NAME FOR DRAGONFRUIT. WHY DON'T THEY JUST CALL IT DRAGONFUIT THEN....?! BY THE WAY, THOSE MINT BARK THINGS ARE FREAKIN TO DIE FOR. I TRIED THEM OUT AT COSTCO ONCE AND WAS SO TEMPTED TO BUY !
I WAS SUPER HUNGRY AND WANTED A REAL LUNCH AND EXCITED TO SEE THEY HAD A "SANDWICH MENU" UNTIL I LOOKED AT THE INGREDIENTS... AND REALIZED THAT THEY'RE MORE LIKE (HEALTHY) DESSERT SANDWICHES...
HAVE YOU GUYS TRIED CHIA SEEDS BEFORE? I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO TRY! IS IT GOOD??
I HOPE I DON'T GET IN TROUBLE FOR THIS, BUT HERE IS THE WIFI PASSWORD. YOU'RE WELCOME (:
Located inside the Oc Mix Mart, this place is filled with all kinds of Hipstic vibes (yes, I really did just make that word up) and tranquility at the same time. The vintage-modern decor definitely deserves a double-take.
There are wi-fi spots throughout the entire vicinity so this is the perfect study spot! Even better if you want to snack on some acai bowls or head over to Portola Coffee Lab to sip on some artisan coffee while you prepare for your upcoming final at Orange Coast College.
Anyway, the Birdie Juicery has what all health-advocates are into right now: cold-pressed juices and acai bowls.
After looking at all the pictures of their acai bowls from their Yelp page, I decided I wanted to try their Peanut B Acai Bowl. Kev and I were really debating whether we should try the Pitaya or not... Pitaya seemed so foreign to me until the cashier informed us that it was another name for Dragon-fruit. DRAGON-FRUIT. I have a Dragon-fruit tree in my backyard! Being of South-East Asian origin, we both concluded that dragonfruit is very familiar to us... and that since Acai berries are harder to find we went for the Peanut B Acai Bowl!
There are honey and raw agave at the Pick Up station that you can use to pour on as much as you want! We poured a bit too much.. and then I honestly couldn't even tell the difference between agave and honey...(what's wrong with my tastebuds?) This place also offers many other healthy(?) snacks as well like chia seeds chocolate pudding and kale chips!
The Peanut B Acai Bowl was topped with a lot of fruit and cacao nibs! They really don't skimp out on the fruit toppings (blueberries, strawberries, bananas) which is what I like! I love love love my fruit! Unfortunately, they ran out of goji berries so they replaced it with cacao nibs but that's not a big matter! I thought it was better because chocolate + peanut butter... great combo! The peanut butter taste was surprisingly strong. I didn't think it would be that strong! The overall bowl was very delicious and refreshing but a bit too sweet. Even when I tasted it while avoiding the sea of honey/agave it was still too sweet in my opinion. (I remember Nektar's and the place I went to in Venice has the least sweet acai bowls I've ever had) The sweetness is probably from the peanut butter though! Perhaps if I ordered the classic or green veggie it would have been the more healthier choice! But! I wanted to be a little adventurous and find out what acai + peanut butter would taste like. ^__^ I totally recommend it if you're a peanut butter lover!
The Service of this little joint is good but nothing to rave about. The workers are nice and friendly though and the acai bowls come out fast!
The Price for the acai bowls are $8 even for a 24oz acai bowl which is perfect to share between 2 people. However, I don't like the limited options here. The fact that they only offer one size does not at all entice me to come back, especially if I wanted to come back alone. Even though I'm capable of finishing one 24oz acai bowl, I think I would end up getting too sick of it from eating too much. So for the pricing and choices, I would much rather prefer to go to Acai Republic (in Tustin) or Bowl of Heaven (Newport or various other locations) because these places provide more size options which means cheaper prices!
