SO SINCE TODAY IS TUESDAY, I THOUGHT OF TACOS !!
Came here today and I was SUPER IMPRESSED. Wow, I love the art that they have outside of their store! It reminds me of like "dia de los muertos"!
This place is NEAR OCC so if you go to OCC or live in COSTA MESA and want some delicious tacos on a Tuesday or other Mexican food, this place is only about 8 minutes away from OCC!
It's called Taco Mesa and it's very bright and lit up at night so YOU CAN'T MISS IT! Parking is horrible though...but Kev & I were lucky enough that someone was leaving their parking spot!
This place has a lot of outdoor seating but not a lot of indoor sitting. The outside is nice though and they provide those heaters for you too for the cold nights. It has a very lively atmosphere in my opinion when I came!
So onto the most important part: the food. This place probably has one of the best horchatas I've ever tasted. I love horchata and the kind that they serve here is VERY FLAVORFUL and they also add cinnamon in it too for that extra cinnamon kick. The tacos were very impressive to me as well. They give you a lot of meat and you can put all the other stuff on it if you want. What I mean is, there is a bar with cilantro, onions, carrots, salsa, etc that you can help yourself with as much as you want! And just stuff your taco with it!
Kev & I ordered: (all of these were superb)
- al pastor
- baja fish - not too fried so it didn't taste too oily
- carnitas
- shredded beef
- shredded chicken
- chili verde
- each taco is $1.35 for Taco Tuesday. Not bad right?!
- all of these tacos were served on a single tortilla. Most other taquerias that I've been to serve tacos on two tortillas because they're a bit smaller and the tortillas rip more easily. However, the ones here were a bit bigger and stronger so it wasn't that fragile!
- Depending on the taco you get though, some of the tacos were fried so it became the crunchy kind of taco shell. It reminded me of the tacos sold at Jack in the Box which is kind of oily and crunchy and it was also oily here too.
- horchata - very flavorful and full of cinnamon!
Even if there might be a long line, they serve the food FAST here so the line goes by quick! I am sooooooo gonna go here on another Taco Tuesday!
