Basically a donut STUFFED with ice cream! Perfect for lovers of donuts and ice cream! When I first heard about this I was thinking: FINALLY! FINALLY SOMEONE IS SELLING THIS OUT THERE!
I absolutely love ice cream and I even love tempura fried ice cream. So this idea, to me, is something quite familiar.
BUT WAIT! LITERALLY THOUGH... YOU GOTTA WAIT. Of course, the HYPE IS STILL REAL because the first two times that I came here, I basically waited almost an hour to get my hands on the awesome goodness of an ice-cream stuffed donut. Also, this store just recently opened too! Probably around 2 or 3 weeks ago? The sign for their store is not even officially completed. All it says is "ICE CREAM" and it is pretty hard to notice in the dark. Instead, the more obvious way to find this place is by looking at the Hallmark store nextdoor. They have a variety of handcrafted ice cream flavors here including Vietnamese Coffee, Jasmine Milk Tea (must have!) and Cookie Monster (my fave). They offer ice cream on cones, in cups, and stuffed inside a donut. The donut can either be glazed or unglazed.
The first time that I visited this place, I made the mistake of ordering ice cream stuffed inside a GLAZED donut because that thing is HARD TO EAT when wrapped with paper they provide. The donut was incredibly sticky and annoying to eat. EXTREMELY MESSY TOO. However, I gave this place another shot and ordered the UNGLAZED donut and boy oh boy... THIS ONE WAS PERFECT. It was NOT TOO OVERBEARINGLY SWEET and it was SO MUCH EASIER TO EAT AND NOT STICKY OR MESSY! Hooray! I need more of this goodness in my life, so I'll probably be going again today! Hopefully the line won't be an hour long... T__T
PRICE COMPARISON: Compared to another favorite of mine CREAMISTRY (IN IRVINE), this place is definitely a place that I would frequent. The price is not bad (between $4 - $8) and the ice cream is DELICIOUS. The Milky Bun is also only about $5! Creamisty however is too expensive for me. Although the ice cream there is FRESHLY made the way you want it, the price is too much for me to visit regularly (between $7 - $12). So...Afters Ice Cream, I'll definitely be seeing you more in my life!
P.S. INSIDE THE STORE THEY HAVE THE WORDS "GUCCI MANE LOVES AFTERS" AND OUT OF CURIOSITY, I ASKED THE WORKERS THERE IF THE RAPPER GUCCI MANE REALLY ACTUALLY LOVES AFTERS... APPARENTLY THIS AIN'T TRUE Y'ALL. (WELL MAYBE HE WOULD IF HE EVER VISITED...) THEY PUT THAT THERE BECAUSE GUCCI MANE HAS THAT TATTOO ON HIS FACE OF AN ICE CREAM CONE WHICH IS THE SAME LOGO AS AFTERS ICE CREAM. (IS THIS EVEN LEGAL TO PUT HIS NAME THERE THEN?!?!)
